An article about our club’s Holiday Doors of Hudson contest was featured on the front page of the December 2012 issue of Hudson Life magazine. The story and photography was done by HGC member Bronwyn Pierson and can be read in its entirety by scrolling to page 9 of the link. HGC brings Mr. McGregor’s garden to Wintershow 2012
One feature of Cleveland Botanical Garden’s Wintershow 2012, GLOW, is trees decorated with a literary theme. The committee from our club chose The Tales of Peter Rabbit and decorated our tree as Mr. McGregor’s garden. Peter Rabbit tops a tree adorned with vegetables and garden tools! This is the second year Hudson Garden Club has participated in this fun holiday event. The literary trees are only one part of the display at The Garden. The Garden’s website has more information about this great way to get into the holiday spirit.

HGC members open their home and garden to club
HGC members Judy and Phil Mikita welcomed club members for a tour of their home and garden. They purchased a small ranch home in 1975 and over the years have made many changes. They added a second story to the home, built a family room addition, reconfigured and remodeled the kitchen and converted the former living room to a spacious dining room. The yard has also changed over the years and now boasts a deck with hot tub, water feature, vegetable garden, herb garden and many hostas and perennials. Iced beverages and sweet treats were the perfect ending to the afternoon event.
Garden party was the finale of the 2012 Tour
More than 80 party-goers spent a memorable evening June 16 in the garden of Lisa and K.C. Aiken to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Hudson Home and Garden Tour. The garden club event, “A Garden Gathering,” capped the 2012 tour and was conceived by the tour committee as a way to both recognize a significant milestone and raise additional funds for our club’s many civic causes.
Hors d’oeuvres from Downtown140 were decorated with fresh herb and edible flower garnishes made by Connie Price. Lisa Aiken and Molly Taylor Designs created the table top arrangements. Hudson residents Bonnie Hayhurst (piano) and Julie Ann Hancsak (violin) set the mood with musical selections. Guests received a gift of heirloom flower seeds upon departure.
Club President Wendy Hilty thanked the Aikens for generously opening their home for the fund raiser. The proceeds will be used to help underwrite our Club’s numerous community projects including tree planting in Hudson, scholarships for students entering horticultural or environment fields of study, the various flower gardens planted on Hudson’s Green, and educational programming for children and adults.

Trees for Barlow Farm Park
Since 2005, our club has earmarked our annual donation to Hudson Parks for the purchase of trees at Barlow Farm Park. This active-use park was once a cultivated farm field and badly needed trees. Every year, 20-25 young trees were planted by the Hudson Parks crew. As of the fall of 2011, our club has funded the planting of 136 lindens, maples and oaks at this park! Monies raised through our annual Hudson Home and Garden Tour make the donations possible.
